How to choose the best channel for your home Wi-fi

Most people today have internet in their home. They also probably use Wi-fi more often than a wired connection. Many people when getting a new router will leave the channel settings on auto. This isn’t that bad when there aren’t many other networks near yours. Although, if you live in an apartment, chances are that you have many neighbors nearby and many Wi-fi networks nearby. Having yours on the right channel will provide you with a more reliable internet connection, because your network won’t be interfering with everyone else’s.

Troubleshooting

  • Issues trying to login to router- Attempt to look up the default username and password for it. Username is generally “Admin” and password is usually blank.
  • Issues finding how to change the channel- Because there are many types of routers, the best solution is to look it up online. It is generally in the “Wifi” settings though.
  • Issues finding router ip address- Generally it is “192.168.1.1”. If you have a Comcast router it is “10.0.0.1”
